Maui Jim makes no secret of its humble beginnings, selling sunglasses on the beach in Lahaina. The idea was for people to be able to appreciate the glorious colours of the island whilst being protected from harmful UV rays. The way to do this was for Maui Jim to develop its own formula for polarised lenses.
To Maui Jim, colour and light are the keys to experiencing life, and the brand is passionate about providing a way to see the world in all its colourful glory. Some sunglasses mute colours along with light, but with a pair of Maui Jims you can see everything around you in full colour.
In 2022, Maui Jim became a part of the global group Kering Eyewear, which designs and develops eyewear for a wide range of luxury brands. However, the main Maui Jim office is still in Lahaina, and sunglasses are still designed and tested there.
What started as a small range of 7 styles has grown into a robust collection of over 125 styles of sunglasses and eyeglasses. From dramatic cat eye styles to classic rectangular sunglasses, there is a pair to suit every taste.
There is more than a love of colour driving Maui Jim eyewear – a drive for innovation has led to the development of the brand’s patented PolarizedPlus2 technology. The glare of the sun can wash out colours and leave you squinting, but by eliminating 99.9% of glare, the lenses enable you to see your surroundings at their best.
