A cataract is a clouding of the lens within the eye. Normally the lens is clear and helps you to focus light rays onto the retina at the back of the eye but when it becomes hazy, the light rays are prevented from passing onto the retina and what you see becomes blurred and dull.
Cataracts most commonly form slowly in adult life but some are present at birth.
A simple surgical procedure is the only treatment for cataracts and the method is very straight forward and the results are successful in the majority of people.
