What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of common eye conditions that can slowly develop over many years and affects the peripheral vision. It’s usually caused by fluid building up in the eye(s) causing damage to the optic nerve. As the nerve gradually deteriorates, blind spots develop in your vision. Many people do not realise that they have Glaucoma in the early stages but it is quite common, so regular eye examinations to pick up and monitor are important as it can affect people of all ages.
There are many ways we can test the pressure of the fluid in the eyes and the most common is the puff of air test with a tonometer and the visual fields test.
